Recap: Alabama vs. Northeastern
Tuscaloosa, AL (Sports Network) - Levi Randolph led the way with 13 points as the top-seeded Alabama Crimson Tide downed the eighth-seeded Northeastern Huskies, 62-43, in first-round action of the 2013 NIT at Coleman Coliseum.
For the Crimson Tide (22-12), Trevor Lacey added 11 points.
Jonathan Lee finished with 13 points and Reggie Spencer tallied 10 to lead the Huskies (20-13), who were playing without leading scorer Joel Smith (16.5 ppg) who sustained an undisclosed injury during the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament.
Alabama opened the game with a 17-3 run, taking a 28-23 lead into halftime. The hosts shot 42.3 percent from the field in the first half, but just 2-of-8 from 3-point range. Northeastern made a total of just eight field goals through the first 20 minutes of action.
The Tide connected on 48.3 percent from the field after halftime but just 2- of-11 from 3-point range. The Huskies struggled from the field, shooting 28 percent (7-of-25) and 3-of-11 from 3-point distance.
Northeastern scored the first four points of the second half to cut their deficit to just one. Alabama responded by scoring the next 22 points to take the biggest lead of the game at 50-27, holding Northeastern scoreless for over nine minutes. Randolph scored nine of his points during that rally, as Alabama cruised the rest of the way.
The Tide dominated down low, outscoring the Huskies in the paint 36-14 and outrebounding the visitors, 37-27.
Alabama will now face Stanford in the second round of the tourney after the Cardinal survived by just a single point, 58-57, versus Stephen F. Austin on Tuesday night.Game Notes
