Recap: Appalachian St vs. Chattanooga

Boone, NC (Sports Network) - Jay Canty led all scorers with 27 points in 27 minutes off the bench, and the Appalachian State Mountaineers throttled the Chattanooga Mocs, 86-60, in the Southern Conference regular-season finale for both teams at the Holmes Center.

Nathan Healy added 20 points and a game-high 14 rebounds to help the Mountaineers (14-15, 10-8 SoCon) lock up the No. 4 seed and the final first- round bye in the upcoming SoCon Tournament. Jamaal Trice scored 13, while Mike Neal tallied 10 assists and three steals.

Casey Jones had 16 points and Ronrico White scored 10 for the Mocs (13-18, 8-10), who rallied back from a 19-point deficit to win the season's first meeting with ASU but had no such luck in today's rematch. Z. Mason finished with nine points and 10 rebounds in the loss.

The Mountaineers wasted little time setting the tone, as their nine first-half 3-pointers matched Chattanooga's field-goal total in the frame. ASU shot 56.3 percent from the floor (18-of-32) and from beyond the arc (9-of-16) to build a comfortable, 55-30 halftime lead.

The Mountaineers scored the first eight points of the second stanza to stretch their lead to 33, and the margin never dipped below 25 the rest of the way.

ASU had 19 assists on 27 field goals for the game, while the Mocs dished out only six helpers on 21 baskets.
