Recap: South Dakota St vs. Tennessee St

Brookings, SD (Sports Network) - The South Dakota State Jackrabbits rebounded from a last-second loss in their season-opener to defeat the Tennessee State Tigers, 78-71, behind their leader Nate Wolters.

Wolters followed up his 30-point performance last game with 22 points and nine assists to lead the Jackrabbits (1-1) to their first win of the season. He was also perfect from the free throw line, connecting on all 10 attempts. Jordan Dykstra chipped in with 18 points and eight boards, while Chad White and Tony Fiegen scored 11 and 10, respectively.

Tennessee State (0-2) big man Robert Covington scored a game-high 23 points and added 11 rebounds in the loss. Patrick Miller (12 points) played all 40 minutes for the Tigers, finishing with 10 assists but shot just 5-of-18 from the floor.

The Jackrabbits led from the opening tip and jumped out to a 15-point halftime lead, draining nearly 60 percent of their field goals in the half.

Tennessee State chipped away in the second half, eventually cutting its deficit to just three points thanks to a 7-0 run midway through the frame, but that's as close as it would get. The Jackrabbits hit 5-of-6 late free throws to seal the victory.

South Dakota State won despite committing a game-high 16 turnovers.
