Recap: Tenn-Martin vs. Jacksonville St

Martin, TN (Sports Network) - Tarvin Gaines scored a game-high 23 points, one of four starters in double figures, as the Jacksonville State Gamecocks delivered a 64-54 win over the Skyhawks of Tennessee-Martin in an Ohio Valley Conference battle at the Elam Center.

Darion Rackley added 13 points for the Gamecocks (10-3, 2-0 OVC) as he combined with Gaines to make 21-of-25 at the free-throw line. Ronnie Boggs and Brian Williams chipped in 10 points apiece as the squad won for the seventh time in the last eight outings.

The Skyhawks (3-11, 0-2) were paced by Myles Taylor who recorded a double- double with 22 points and 12 rebounds, adding four steals as well in an effort to offset his six turnovers as the team bowed for the sixth game in a row. Justin Childs contributed 12 points for the hosts.

JSU ran out to a 9-2 lead to open the contest, but the squad ended up shooting just 38.9 percent from the floor, identical to UT-Martin, which left the teams locked at 22-22 at the break.

In the second half the Gamecocks nearly doubled their output, connecting on 44.4 percent from the floor and 15-of-18 at the charity stripe in order to capture the double-digit win.

In a game that featured five ties and six lead changes, the Skyhawks hurt themselves with 21 turnovers, which the visitors traded in for 18 points.
