Recap: Western Mich vs. Central Mich

Kalamazoo, MI (Sports Network) - Shayne Whittington scored 16 points and grabbed 14 rebounds, as the Western Michigan Broncos closed out the regular season with a 71-68 triumph over the Central Michigan Chippewas in Mid- American Conference play at University Arena.

Brandon Pokley chipped in with 15 points for the Broncos (19-11, 10-6 MAC), while reserves Darius Paul and Connar Tava scored 12 and 11 points, respectively.

Kyle Randall had a game-high 33 points behind 6-of-10 shooting from the perimeter for the Chippewas (11-19, 4-12). Chris Fowler finished with 11 points and six assists in a losing effort.

The first half featured four ties and four lead changes. WMU took its largest lead of the contest at the 8:14 mark as Paul's layup made it a 23-13 game. However, the Chippewas closed out the half with a 25-11 run to take a four- point halftime lead into the locker room.

The Broncos trailed by nine early in the second half, but they went on to shoot 61 percent from the floor over the final minutes, including a 6-of-9 effort from beyond the arc, to complete the comeback.

WMU held only a slim 11-10 edge in offensive rebounds for the game, but the Broncos parlayed that into a key 14-3 advantage in second-chance points.
