Recap: Toledo vs. Ball State

Toledo, OH (Sports Network) - Behind a 28-point effort from Jauwan Scaife, the Ball State Cardinals took down the Toledo Rockets, 86-72, in Mid-American Conference action at Savage Arena.

Scaife shot 5-of-10 from 3-point range and has now scored 18 points or more in six straight games. Jesse Berry scored 22 points and was also impressive from 3-point range (5-of-8), while Chris Bond chipped in 16 points for Ball State (13-14, 6-8 MAC), which has won three in a row.

Four players scored in double figures for Toledo (13-13, 8-6), paced by 20 points from Rian Pearson. Matt Smith poured in 16 points, Nathan Boothe had 12 points and Julius Brown tallied 11 points and six assists for the Rockets, who have dropped back-to-back games.

Toledo outshot Ball State from the field in the first half, 52 percent to 48.3 percent, but the Cardinals carried a 42-38 lead into intermission by shooting 6-of-13 from beyond the arc and 8-of-11 from the foul line.

The Rockets briefly led early in the second half, but the Cardinals answered with a 15-0 run to take a double-digit advantage. Toledo would not go away quietly, climbing back to make its deficit just two following a Dominique Buckley 3-pointer at the 5:02 mark, but Ball State put an end to the threat with a 8-0 spurt to pull away.

Ball State held a dominating advantage on the boards, 44-24.
