Recap: Ball State vs. South Dakota

Muncie, IN (Sports Network) - Led by 14 points from Jauwan Scaife, the Ball State Cardinals downed the South Dakota Coyotes, 62-51, in a non-conference matchup at Worthen Arena.

Marcus Posley added 12 points for the Cardinals (4-4), while Chris Bond posted a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Majok Majok just missed a double-double of his own with nine points and 16 rebounds and Matt Kamieniecki dished out eight assists.

For the Coyotes (4-6), Steve Tecker led the way with 15 points and Trevor Gruis scored 14 points to go along with eight rebounds, four steals and three blocked shots before fouling out.

South Dakota opened the game on a 6-0 run but shot just 34.5 percent from the field in the first half. Ball State was more accurate, making 40.7 percent of its field goal attempts, as the teams entered halftime knotted at 26-26.

In the second half, the Cardinals improved to 45.8 percent shooting from the field. The Coyotes continued to struggle, connecting on just 33.3 percent of their field goal tries. Ball State was also able to outscore South Dakota 11-4 at the free-throw line after halftime, as the hosts claimed the victory.

The Cardinals dominated on the boards, outrebounding the Coyotes 48-30. South Dakota finished the contest making just 4-of-25 from beyond the three-point arc.
