Recap: Niagara vs. Fairfield

Niagara, NY (Sports Network) - A pair of made free-throws with 14 seconds left in the game by Juan'ya Green were key as the Niagara Purple Eagles held on to defeat the Fairfield Stags, 71-67, in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play at the Gallagher Center.

Green scored a game-high 31 points in the Niagara (7-7, 3-1 MAAC) victory. Antoine Mason scored 11 points but was the only other player in double-figures as the Purple Eagles have won four of their last five games.

Derek Needham led four Stags (10-6,2-2) in double-figures with a team-high 13 points. Keith Matthews contributed 12 points, while Colin Nickerson and Desmond Wade added 11 points each in the loss, snapping a six game winning streak,

Niagara started the game on an 11-2 run, but Fairfield would fight back to end the first half with both teams even at 31-31.

Niagara capitalized on 22-of-26 free throws in the second, and also made 2- of-4 from beyond the arc to secure the victory.

The Purple Eagles made 27-of-37 from the free throw line, and force 21 turnovers on the day.
