Recap: Canisius vs. Rider

Buffalo, NY (Sports Network) - Junior Fortunat scored 12 points off the bench behind 5-of-5 shooting from the floor, and the Rider Broncs rallied for a 65-61 win over the Canisius Golden Griffins in the final Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference regular-season game for both teams.

Jonathon Thompson and Nurideen Lindsey scored 11 apiece to help the Broncs (18-13, 12-6 MAAC) earn the No. 2 seed in the upcoming MAAC Tournament, thanks to five straight wins to close out their schedule. Niagara secured the top seed by virtue of its win over last-place Saint Peter's on Saturday.

Harold Washington, Isaac Sosa and Billy Baron all scored 14 points for the Golden Griffins (18-12, 11-7).

Canisius had the hot hand early on and led by as many as 11 with five minutes to play in the opening frame. The Griffs would take a 38-31 halftime lead into the locker room.

Canisius still led, 61-56, with 4:24 left to play but the Broncs went on to score the final nine points of the contest. Freshman Zedric Sadler, who sat out the previous two games for violating team rules, made a 3-pointer with 15 seconds to play and added a pair of free throws with 1.7 seconds remaining to seal the victory.

The Broncs shot 54.3 percent for the game and also won the rebounding battle, 29-21.
