Recap: Georgia State vs. James Madison
Atlanta, GA (Sports Network) - R.J. Hunter tallied 19 points and seven rebounds for the Georgia State Panthers, who topped the James Madison Dukes, 68-52, in Colonial Athletic Association play at GSU Sports Arena.
Manny Atkins added 15 points and eight boards, while Devonta White scored 11 and dished out seven assists to help the Panthers (6-9, 1-1 CAA) snap a five- game losing streak. James Vincent played a key role in the paint, swatting away eight shots to go along with 10 points and five rebounds.
Rayshawn Goins racked up 19 points and 16 boards for the Dukes (7-7, 1-1), who were denied their fifth straight victory. A.J. Davis contributed 10 points and eight caroms off the bench in a losing effort.
Georgia State shot 53.8 percent from the floor in the first half, including an 8-of-13 effort from the perimeter. The Panthers closed out the half with a 13-4 run, capped by David Travers' 3-pointer at the buzzer, to take a 38-25 lead into the break. JMU shot just 29.6 percent from the floor in the opening frame.
GSU led by as many as 17 in the opening minutes of the second half, although the Dukes battled back and cut the deficit to nine midway through the period. However, Atkins answered with a three-point play to give the Panthers a 56-44 lead, and they maintained a double-digit cushion the rest of the way.
The Panthers held JMU to 30.9-percent shooting from the floor to earn their sixth victory in the last seven meetings in the head-to-head series.Game Notes
