Recap: Illinois State vs. Northern Iowa

Normal, Illinois (Sports Network) - Seth Tuttle scored 19 points for the Northern Iowa Panthers as they defeated the Illinois State Redbirds, 70-60, in a Missouri Valley Conference showdown at the Redbird Arena.

Tuttle was 8-of-9 from the field while also pulling down a team-high seven rebounds for the Panthers (8-7, 1-2 MVC), who ended their two game losing streak. Anthony James also tallied 19 points while Marc Sonnen added 16 for UNI.

Jackie Carmichael recorded a double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds for the Redbirds (9-6, 0-3 MVC), who lost their third in a row. Tyler Brown scored 12 points to go with his five steals and Johnny Hill netted 10 points off his 5-of-8 shooting from the floor.

UNI led 29-24 at the break after forcing Illinois State into 37.0 percent shooting from the field.

While the Redbirds shooting improved in the second half to 53.1 percent, the Panthers shot even better at 57.9 percent and outscored Illinois State, 16-1, at the free throw line to coast to the 10-point decision.

The Redbirds only managed five shots from the free-throw line, in which they made four, but the Panthers were much more effective, taking 21 shots from the charity stripe and making good on 17.
