Recap: Villanova vs. Columbia

Villanova, PA (Sports Network) - Alex Rosenberg led the way with 21 points as the Columbia Lions defeated the Villanova Wildcats, 75-57, in a non-conference matchup at The Pavilion.

For the Lions (3-1), Steve Frankoski added 15 points, while Brian Barbour and Grant Mullins each chipped in with 14 points. Barbour went just 1-of-12 from the field, but he drained all 12 of his free throws and also tallied eight rebounds, seven assists, and three steals.

James Bell led the Wildcats (3-2) with 13 points and Ryan Arcidiacono scored 11 points.

Though they only shot 33.3 percent from the field in the first half, the Lions were able to take a 26-22 lead into halftime. The Wildcats shot 45 percent, but they made just one three-pointer to Columbia's four in the opening frame.

In the second half, Columbia got hot from long range, connecting on 7-of-14 three-point attempts. Villanova made just 32.3 percent of its field goals after halftime and continued to struggle with its threes, hitting on only 2- of-10 of its attempts from beyond the arc. After the Wildcats cut their deficit to five, 49-44, with just over seven minutes to play, the Lions responded with a 14-4 run to push the lead into double-digits.

The Lions scored 23 points off of 16 Villanova turnovers. Columbia finished the contest shooting 11-of-31 from three-point range and made 26-of-30 from the free throw line.
