Recap: Colorado State vs. San Diego St

Fort Collins, CO (Sports Network) - Dorian Green's three-point play with 19.4 seconds remaining helped the 24th-ranked Colorado State Rams slip past San Diego State, 66-60, Wednesday at Moby Arena.

Green, who finished with 16 points and six assists on 3-of-4 shooting from 3- point range, put the home team ahead by one with 1:05 to play with a 3- pointer, before his driving bucket across the center of the lane and subsequent free throw turned a one-point Colorado State lead into a four point edge.

The late basket secured the victory for the Rams (20-4, 7-2 MWC), who are ranked in the AP poll for the first time since 1954 and increased their home winning streak to 27 games. Greg Smith added 15 points and seven rebounds and Pierce Hornung chipped in 12 points, eight boards and four assists in the victory.

Chase Tapley scored 16 points and J.J. O'Brien donated 12 on 6-of-8 shooting for the Aztecs (18-6, 6-4), who had the ball with 17 seconds remaining, down four, but Jamaal Franklin lost control as he was double-teamed and it resulted in an easy Jon Octeus dunk for CSU. The Aztecs came into the contest winners of their last two games.

After Xavier Thames' layup increased SDSU's lead to 54-51, Octeus tied things up with a deep 3-pointer with 7:15 remaining.

Neither team scored again until under the five minute mark before both squads traded baskets. O'Brien snuck by his defender with just over two minutes to play to make it 58-58.

O'Brien struck again with 1 1/2 left, as his jumper briefly quieted the home crowd. Hornung, however, corralled a missed shot under the hoop, and dished it back out to a wide open Green who calmly nailed the trey to put the Rams up one.

Tapley's jumper three minutes into the second half tied the game at 40-40, a theme that would remain constant, as the contest stayed within one possession for vast majority of the stanza, until Green's three-point play.

The contest was tied at halftime, 35-35, while SDSU converted 14-of-33 field goals and CSU connected on 12-of-26.
