Recap: Washington St vs. Idaho

Pullman, WA (Sports Network) - Brock Motum scored a game-high 26 points and pulled down nine rebounds as the Washington State Cougars delivered a 64-55 win against the Idaho Vandals in non-conference action at Beasley Coliseum.

Also scoring in double figures for the Cougars (4-3) were Dexter Kernich-Drew with 15 points and D.J. Shelton with 14, to go along with six boards and three blocked shots.

The Vandals (1-4) were paced by Stephen Madison who tallied 13 points, Kyle Barone 11 and Connor Hill 10 points in the setback.

Idaho moved out to an early four-point lead in the opening moments of the first half, but the squad ended up shooting just 37.0 percent from the floor in the period, including 1-of-6 beyond the arc, and that left the visitors with a 34-25 deficit at the break.

In the second half WSU converted 52.2 percent from the field in order to keep pace with the Vandals and eventually capture the nine-point home win.

The Cougars shot only 3-of-15 beyond the arc and 9-of-17 at the free-throw line, but with just four turnovers the team generally made the most of their possessions.

The oldest continuous basketball rivalry west of the Mississippi River, this is the 107th straight year that the Vandals and Cougars have taken the floor against one another. The first meeting ended in a 28-11 victory for Washington State in January of 1906.
