Recap: Utah vs. SMU

Salt Lake City, UT (Sports Network) - Justin Seymour scored 11 points off the bench as the Utah Utes overpowered the SMU Mustangs, 62-53, in a non- conference clash at the Huntsman Center.

Brandon Taylor and Jason Washburn each tallied 10 points for Utah (7-3) which had nine players score in the win. The Utes have won three of their last four contests.

Nick Russell scored a game-high 13 points for SMU (8-3) while Cannen Cunningham added 12 points and eight rebounds. The Mustangs have lost consecutive games after a three-game winning streak.

Utah was able to take a slim 31-28 lead into halftime despite shooting just 36.0 percent by outscoring the Mustangs 12-9 from beyond the arc and 9-5 from the free throw line.

In the second half the Utes improved to 45.8 percent shooting and hit 8-of-9 shots from the charity stripe to close out the win.

SMU shot at just a 39.6 percent clip in the game and was victim of a 36-27 deficit in rebounds.
