Recap: Villanova vs. Marshall

Villanova, PA (Sports Network) - Ryan Arcidiacono scored 25 points and dished out six assists in the second game of his collegiate career to lead the Villanova Wildcats to an 80-68 victory over the Marshall Thundering Herd at the Pavilion in the 2K Sports Classic.

Arcidiacono's shooting propelled Villanova (2-0) as he converted 4-of-9 from three-point range and 9-of-10 attempts at the charity stripe. James Bell added 19 points, Darrun Hilliard netted 15 points, and JayVaughn Pinkston grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.

D.D. Scarver paced Marshall (1-1) with 22 points on 8-of-14 shooting from the field. Chris Martin and Elijah Pittman provided a spark off the bench by scoring 13 and 12 points, respectively. DeAndre Kane dished out a game-high seven assists but went just 2-of-10 from the floor. Dennis Tinnon just missed a double-double as he provided 15 points and nine boards in the losing effort.

Villanova came out of the gates hot to shoot 56.5 percent from the field and 5- of-12 from distance in the opening 20 minutes. The Thundering Herd made 52 percent of their field goal attempts, but still went into the intermission trailing, 43-35.

Marshall rallied in the second half and trailed by only two points, 70-68, with 4:01 left to play. Bell hit a three-pointer on the next possession to spark a 12-0 Wildcats' run.

The Thundering Herd made only 8-of-15 at the free throw line in the contest while Villanova made 25-of-37 attempts at the charity stripe.
