Recap: Georgia vs. South Carolina
Athens, GA (Sports Network) - Kentavious Caldwell-Pope scored 18 points and hit a clutch 3-pointer in the second half as the Georgia Bulldogs defeated the South Carolina Gamecocks, 62-54, in SEC action at Stegeman Coliseum.
Caldwell-Pope was two-boards shy of a double-double for the Bulldogs (13-14, 7-7 SEC). Charles Mann added 14 points and Nemanja Djurisic contributed 11 points. Brandon Morris chipped collected 11 rebounds as Georgia snapped a three-game losing streak.
For the Gamecocks (13-14, 3-11), Bruce Ellington recorded a team-high 11 points. Laimonas Chatkevicius added 10 rebounds as South Carolina lost its seventh game in the last eight tries.
Both teams struggled shooting in the first half as each made only six from the floor including and went 0-of-6 from beyond the arc. South Carolina made 4-of-7 foul shots, while Georgia made 11-of-19 from the free throw line, en route to a 23-16 advantage at the break.
In the second, South Carolina made 12-of-23 from the floor including 6-of-10 beyond the arc as they took a three-point lead with 17 seconds remaining. However, a made 3-pointer by Caldwell-Pope with 10 seconds remaining forced overtime.
South Carolina was held to a 0-of-7 field goals made in overtime. Georgia made 2-of-4 from the floor including 1-of-2 beyond the arc, en route to the 8- point victory.
Georgia controlled rebounds 47-39, and made 28-of-46 from the foul line, thanks to 29 personal fouls by South Carolina.Game Notes
