Recap: Richmond vs. William & Mary
Richmond, VA (Sports Network) - Led by Darrian Brothers with 20 points, the Richmond Spiders outlasted the William & Mary Tribe in double overtime, 86-78, in non-conference action at the Robins Center.
For the Spiders (5-2), Derrick Williams posted a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds, while Kendall Anthony added 15 points, Greg Robbins 14 and Cedrick Lindsay chipped in with 12 points.
Marcus Thornton led the Tribe (3-3) with 22 points, while Tim Rusthoven finished with 20 points, Kyle Gaillard scored 16 and Brandon Britt added 14 points.
Both teams shot well to open the game, with William & Mary hitting on 50 percent of its field goals. Richmond made 52.4 percent of its shots and took a 34-32 lead into halftime.
In the second half, the Tribe connected on 52.2 percent from the field, while the Spiders were able to shoot 48 percent. With Richmond trailing by three, Lindsay drained a three-pointer with 31 seconds to play in regulation to knot the contest at 64-64. Thornton missed a jumper at the buzzer, sending the game into overtime.
After trailing by as many as five in the first extra session, the Spiders were again facing defeat. Down three with less than a minute to play, Anthony was fouled making a layup, and after converting the subsequent free-throw, the game was tied at 71-71. Both teams missed shots in the final seconds that could have won the contest.
In the second overtime, the Spiders jumped out to an early lead and used an 8-0 run midway through the period to secure the victory.
Richmond came out on the winning side despite turning the ball over 19 times and gathering just five rebounds at the offensive end of the floor.Game Notes
