Recap: Cornell vs. St Bonaventure

Ithaca, NY (Sports Network) - Chris Johnson scored 19 points to lead the St. Bonaventure Bonnies to a 72-68 victory over the Cornell Big Red in a non- conference tilt at Newman Arena.

For the Bonnies (2-0), Demitrius Conger and Marquise Simmons each tallied 14 points.

The Big Red (1-1) were led by Errick Peck with 17 points. Devin Cherry added 14 points while Galal Cancer and Johnathan Gray each chipped in 11 points.

St. Bonaventure shot 40 percent from the field in the first half but missed all eight of its three-point attempts. Cornell shot just 35 percent, but was able to connect on 4-of-7 from three-point range. Despite the Big Red's accurate shooting from beyond the arc, the Bonnies went into the intermission leading 35-24.

The Big Red made 43.8 percent of their field goals after the break, but made just 1-of-7 from beyond the arc. The Bonnies shot 43.5 percent from the field in the second half, After trailing by seven with 49 seconds to play, Cornell attempted a late rally. Cherry made one of two free throws with 17 seconds remaining to cut the Big Red's deficit to just one, 69-68. The Bonnies were able to hit three of their final four free throws to hang on for the victory.

The Bonnies dominated in the paint, outscoring the Big Red 36-24. Cornell's bench outscored SBU's reserves, 36-18.
