Recap: BYU vs. Virginia Tech

Salt Lake City, UT (Sports Network) - Tyler Haws erupted for 42 points, as the BYU Cougars ran away with a 97-71 win over the Virginia Tech Hokies in non- conference action at EnergySolutions Arena.

Haws shot 14-of-25 from the floor and was nearly automatic from beyond the arc, connecting on 6-of-8 attempts. Brandon Davies added 17 points and Josh Sharp scored 10 to help the Cougars (10-4) notch their fifth win over the last six outings.

Jarell Eddie led the way with 17 points and seven rebounds for the Hokies (9-4), who have dropped three of their last four contests. Robert Brown added 13 points, and Erick Green finished with 12 in defeat.

The Cougars never trailed in the contest, as they shot 60 percent from the floor in the first half and knocked down 7-of-14 threes to build a comfortable 56-31 halftime lead.

BYU led by as many as 32 with 15 minutes to play, and the Hokies never threatened the rest of the way.

The Hokies shot just 38.1 percent for the game, including a 2-of-20 effort from the perimeter (.100). They were also out-rebounded, 48-39 and gave up 20 offensive boards to BYU.
