Recap: Xavier vs. Butler

Cincinnati, OH (Sports Network) - Jeff Robinson finished with 17 points and eight rebounds, while Travis Taylor tallied 15 points and nine boards to lead the Xavier Musketeers past the Butler Bulldogs, 62-47, on Tuesday.

The two seniors combined to shoot 14-of-23 from the field, each connecting on seven shots apiece. Justin Martin added 10 points for the Musketeers (2-0), who were facing the Bulldogs (1-1) for the first time since they joined the Atlantic 10, but the contest was played as a non-conference game.

The two teams had scheduled the meeting prior to the Bulldogs' move last summer, and both schools agreed to move forward with the game as a non- conference contest. The two teams will square off on March 9 for their first in-conference matchup.

Kellen Dunham was the only player for the Bulldogs in double-figures, scoring 11 points. Butler struggled from the field all day, making just 19-of-52 shots.

Rotnei Clarke posted seven points, five rebounds and five assists in the loss for Butler, which was coming off a season-opening victory against Elon University.

Winning by as many as 14 in the first half after a Semaj Christon fastbreak layup, Xaiver went up 50-35 following a pair of free throws by Martin with 9:29 left in the game.

The Musketeers led by as many as 20 and never trailed in the contest.
