Recap: Duquesne vs. Charlotte
Pittsburgh, PA (Sports Network) - Chris Braswell scored 28 points as the Charlotte 49ers earned an Atlantic-10 Conference, overtime victory over the Duquesne Dukes, 89-87 at the Palumbo Center on Wednesday night.
Braswell was 10-of-14 from the field for the 49ers (19-10, 7-8 A-10), who ended a four-game losing streak. Pierria Henry recorded a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds, while Terrence Williams matched the feat with a double-double of his own, posting 15 points and 12 rebounds. Denzel Ingram rounded out the top scorers for Charlotte with 11 points.
Derrick Colter led the way for the Dukes (8-21, 1-14) with 21 points and 11 assists, but despite his efforts Duquesne suffered its fifth consecutive loss. Sean Johnson poured in 20 points, while Kadeem Pantophlet and Quevyn Winters contributed 12 and 11 points, respectively.
The Dukes held Charlotte below 40.0 percent shooting from the field and knocked down 7-of-14 attempts from 3-point range in the first half, taking a 39-32 lead into intermission.
In the second half, Duquesne lead increased to 17 points at the 10:42 mark, before the 49ers came roaring back. Charlotte shot an efficient 67.9 percent from the floor, capped off by a Braswell layup with seven seconds left in regulation tied the game at 79-79.
Braswell scored five of Charlotte's 10 points in the overtime period, while the 49ers never allowed Duquesne to hold a lead in the extra session.
Charlotte's domination in the paint is what earned the 49ers an edge as they outscored the Dukes, 48-24, down low, while they also scored 14 second-chance points off 12 offensive rebounds. Both teams committed 20 turnovers, but Charlotte held a 41-34 advantage in rebounding.Game Notes
