Recap: Massachusetts vs. Saint Josephs

Amherst, MA (Sports Network) - Terrell Vinson scored 18 points to lead the Massachusetts Minutemen to an 80-62 rout of the Saint Joseph's Hawks in an Atlantic 10 bout at the Mullins Center.

Sampson Carter put in 16 points, Chaz Williams had 11 points and nine assists and Freddie Riley chipped in 10 points for UMass (16-6, 6-3 A-10) which has won four of its last five games.

Langston Galloway recorded 14 points, Carl Jones added 13, Halil Kanacevic netted 12 before fouling out and Ronald Roberts tacked on 10 for Saint Joseph's (13-9. 4-5) which has lost back-to-back games after a three-game winning streak.

At the end of the first half UMass led 40-26. The Minutemen shot 51.6 percent from the floor in the opening period and hit 5-of-10 from beyond the arc.

It was more of the same in the second half as the Minutemen coasted to victory by shooting 52 percent in the final 20 minutes.

UMass outscored the Hawks, who shot 39.2 percent in the game, by a 42-20 margin in the paint. The game was originally scheduled to start earlier in the day but was pushed back due to inclement weather conditions caused by heavy snow.
