Recap: Seton Hall vs. Massachusetts

South Orange, NJ (Sports Network) - Chaz Williams scored 20 points and handed out six assists to lead the fifth-seeded Massachusetts Minutemen as they downed the top-seeded Seton Hall Pirates, 77-67, in the second round of the National Invitational Tournament at Walsh Gymnasium.

Raphiael Putney finished with 15 points and eight rebounds for UMass (24-11), while Terrell Vinson chipped in 10 points. Sean Carted recorded a double- double of 11 points and 11 rebounds to help the Minutemen advance to the quarterfinal round, where they will face the winner of Sunday's matchup between Drexel and Northern Iowa.

Fuquan Edwin scored a game-high 21 points for the Pirates (21-13). Jordan Theodore had 14 points and Herb Pope grabbed 15 rebounds in the losing effort.

The Minutemen took a 36-30 lead into the intermission after they shot 44.4 percent from the floor and converted 10-of-14 from the charity stripe in the opening period. Seton Hall went 3-of-13 from distance and 3-of-7 from the foul line in the first half.

The Pirates rallied back after the break and held a 60-59 lead with 6:27 left to play, but UMass outscored them 18-7 the rest of the way to end Seton Hall's season.

Seton Hall shot just 35 percent from the field and made only 5-of-27 from three-point range in the contest. The Minutemen connected on 44.6 percent of their field goal attempts in the contest.
