Recap: Albany vs. Manhattan

Albany, NY (Sports Network) - George Beamon erupted for a game-high 34 points and pulled down 10 rebounds to lead Manhattan to an 89-79 win over Albany in the first round of the CollegeInsider.com Tournament at SEFCU Arena.

Beamon, who shot 13-of-19 from the floor and was a perfect 6-of-6 at the free- throw line, added five assists and three steals for the Jaspers (21-11) as they advanced to the next round of the tourney. Michael Alvarado added 12 points, Mohamed Koita 11 and Rhamel Brown 10 points for the visitors.

The Great Danes (19-15) were paced by Jacob Iati with 23 points on 7-of-12 shooting behind the three-point line in the setback. Gerardo Suero chipped in 18 points, five assists, four rebounds and four steals, followed by Mike Black with 14 points and six dishes. Sam Rowley and Jayson Guerrier contributed 10 points apiece.

Manhattan trailed by as many as eight points in the first half, yet the squad made good on 57.1 percent from the floor in the period in order to take a 37-30 lead at the break.

In the second half the Jaspers jumped to an incredible 67.9 percent from the field in order to capture the double-digit win.

Manhattan, which won the battle of the boards, finished with 18 turnovers and allowed Albany to make good on 12-of-24 behind the three-point line.
