Recap: St Marys-CA vs. San Francisco

Las Vegas, NV (Sports Network) - Clint Steindl led five teammates in double figures as he scored 19 points, guiding the Saint Mary's Gaels to an 83-78 win over the San Francisco Dons in the semifinal round of the West Coast Conference Tournament at Orleans Arena.

For the top-seeded Gaels (26-5), Matthew Dellavedova added 17 points, Brad Waldow scored 12, Rob Jones posted a double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds, and Jorden Page finished with 10 points. Saint Mary's now moves on to play second-seeded Gonzaga in the conference championship game on Monday.

Cody Doolin led the fifth-seeded Dons (20-13) with 28 points, while Perris Blackwell finished with 19, Rashad Green scored 12 points and Cole Dickerson chipped in 10.

San Francisco was hot from the field to open the game, connecting on 60 percent of its field goals, including 5-of-11 from beyond the arc. St. Mary's shot 48.1 percent and kept it close by making 6-of-15 from three-point range, but the Dons took a 38-34 lead into the break.

In the second half the Gaels heated up, hitting on 61.9 percent of their field goals, including 5-of-11 from three-point range. The Dons cooled off somewhat, making 45.4 percent and 3-of-9 on three-pointers. Saint Mary's used a 17-7 run midway through the second half to build a 70-60 advantage with 5:24 remaining. The Dons rallied, cutting the score 81-78 with 13 seconds left, but Saint Mary's made both free throws on the ensuing possession to secure a 14th straight victory against USF.

SMC outrebounded San Francisco 30-21. The Dons outscored the Gaels in the paint, 34-30.
