Recap: South Alabama vs. Troy

Hot Springs, AR (Sports Network) - Freddie Goldstein led all scorers with 25 points as the South Alabama Jaguars held off a late rally by the Troy Trojans to win 87-81 in the first round of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament at Summit Arena.

Augustine Rubit tallied 18 points and 14 rebounds for the sixth-seeded Jaguars (17-11), while Antione Lundy also recorded a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Dallas Jones chipped in with 11 points for South Alabama.

For 11th-seeded Troy (10-18), Will Weathers scored 17 points, Alan Jones netted 13, and R.J. Scott pitched in with 12.

South Alabama shot 44.1 percent in the first half while Troy made just 38.2 percent of its field goals, as the Jaguars took a 44-34 lead into the break.

The Jaguars managed to extend their lead to as many as 20 in the second half, but the Trojans battled all the way back to cut the deficit to just two, 81-79, on a Jones three-pointer with 32 seconds left. South Alabama responded by scoring six straight points however to seal the win in the waning seconds.

South Alabama was aided by going 24-of-36 from the foul line. Troy shot just 12-of-19 from the stripe. The Jaguars advance the quarterfinal round on Sunday to take on third-seeded Denver.
