Recap: Cal State Fullerton vs. UC Irvine
Anaheim, CA (Sports Network) - Chris McNealy scored a game-high 24 points, leading four starters in double figures, as UC Irvine delivered a 65-59 win over Cal State Fullerton in the quarterfinals of the Big West Conference Tournament at the Honda Center.
Michael Wilder and Derick Flowers both tallied 11 points for the seventh- seeded Anteaters (12-19) in the upset. Adam Folker recorded a double-double with 10 points and a team-best 12 rebounds in the triumph as well.
The second-seeded Titans (21-9) were led by Orane Chin with 20 points, followed by Kwame Vaughn and D.J. Seeley with 12 points apiece. Omondi Amoke chipped in with 10 points and also pulled down a staggering 21 rebounds.
Fullerton came out flat in the first half, shooting a mere 8-of-28 (.286) from the floor, including 2-of-9 behind the three-point line, as it fell behind by eight points at the break, 29-21.
In the second half the Titans picked up the pace with 44.1 percent accuracy from the field and while Fullerton was able to close the gap the squad simply could not complete the comeback bid.
UCI finished the afternoon shooting 10-of-22 from three-point range and 46.9 percent from the field overall, helping the team to overcome 16 turnovers.
The Anteaters are now into the semifinals, where they will take on top- seeded Long Beach State.Game Notes
