Recap: Ill-Chicago vs. Green Bay
Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Freshman Keifer Sykes led all scorers with a career-high 27 points, and the Green Bay Phoenix closed out the regular season with a 71-63 win over Horizon League foe Illinois-Chicago at UIC Pavilion.
Greg Mays scored 13 points and Alec Brown notched a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds to help the Phoenix (15-14, 10-8 HL) to its fifth consecutive victory. The win was only the team's third in 15 tries on the road this season. They will be seeded No. 7 in next week's Horizon League Championship and will take on No. 6 seed Youngstown State in Tuesday's first round
Hayden Humes tallied 13 points and nine boards to pace the Flames (8-21, 3-15), who have dropped six of their last seven and are locked into the No. 9 seed for the conference tournament. They'll take on No. 4 seed Milwaukee on Tuesday. Paris Carter added 10 points off the bench.
UIC was held to just 9-of-28 shooting (.321) in the first half, as Green Bay grabbed a 31-27 halftime lead.
With Green Bay clinging to a one-point lead with eight minutes to play in regulation, Sykes heated up at just the right time, scoring baskets on four consecutive possessions and tallying 14 points the rest of the way to lift his team to victory.
The Phoenix held a 42-33 rebounding advantage for the game while also limiting the Flames to 36.7-percent shooting.Game Notes
