Ann Arbor, MI (SportsNetwork.com) - Michigan center Mitch McGary will not play in the seventh-ranked Wolverines' season opener on Friday due to a lingering back problem, head coach John Beilein confirmed Thursday.

McGary is coming off an impressive freshman campaign in which he averaged 7.5 points per game during the regular season before averaging 14.3 points and 10.7 rebounds per contest in the NCAA Tournament as he helped the team reach the National Championship game, which they lost to Louisville.

The Wolverines will host UMass Lowell at Crisler Center.
