Lawrence, KS (SportsNetwork.com) - Freshman center Joel Embiid will miss at least Kansas' last two regular-season games with a lower back strain, Jayhawks coach Bill Self announced Monday.

Self said Embiid aggravated the injury recently and underwent another MRI.

"We've also spoken with experts with this particular injury and have been told the same thing we were told before, rest is the best remedy," Self said.

Embiid, who is averaging 11.2 points and a team-high 8.1 rebounds, previously missed one game because of the injury.

"It should not be an injury that keeps him out for the rest of the season," Self said. "Last time he was off five days and that worked very nicely for him and he was able to come back and be 100 percent."

But Self said if the 7-footer's condition doesn't improve by Monday -- a day after the No. 8 Jayhawks' regular-season finale at West Virginia -- they will consider sitting him through the Big 12 tournament, which begins March 12.

The Jayhawks also have a home game remaining, against Texas Tech on Wednesday.

Self said "there is no reason" Embiid shouldn't feel better by the start of the NCAA tournament.

"The doctors feel that amount of time off should do him wonders for how he is feeling," Self said.
