Washington, DC (SportsNetwork.com) - George Washington Colonials men's head basketball coach Mike Lonergan received a contract extension through the 2020-21 season on Friday.

Lonergan guided George Washington to the NCAA Tournament this past season after accumulating a 24-9 record. It was just the 11th all-time appearance in the 100-season history of the program and first since 2007.

"As we continue to strengthen our athletic program, it is important to look well into the future," said director of athletics and recreation Patrick Nero. "Securing strong, stable leadership for our men's basketball program was a high priority. Mike has succeeded in bringing high quality young men to GW, and we are proud of how they have developed both on and off the court."

Lonergan has racked up 424 wins with just 203 losses in 21 seasons as a head coach at the collegiate level. Prior to taking over at GW in 2011-12, he spent 12 seasons at Catholic University, winning the Division III championship in 2000-01, before a brief stint as an assistant at Maryland and six seasons as head coach of Vermont.

"I'm very grateful to be able to coach this proud program," said Lonergan," and I want to thank President Knapp, Patrick Nero, my family, friends, players, assistants and staff who have helped make this possible.
