Creighton's Jones retires from basketball

Omaha, NE (Sports Network) - Creighton senior guard Josh Jones announced that his basketball career is over due to a heart condition.

Jones fainted prior to Creighton's game against Nebraska on Dec. 6. He underwent nine hours of testing on Dec. 18 for an atrial flutter.

In eight games this season, Jones averaged 7.0 points. He appeared in 108 games in his Creighton career, averaging 5.0 points.

"Today I would like to announce my early retirement 4rm my collegiate athletic career, and potentially further basketball aspirations," Jones said on his Twitter account Wednesday night. "I'm may not have my career at bball anymore.but I do have my career in a healthy life and other successful opportunities. Thanks for support. After being so strong having to be away from the game.. I shed a tear of bitter sweetness about the feelings as I walk away from the game."
