The jury acquits two people at the center of a federal bid-rigging case. Former transportation secretary Bill Nighbert and road contractor Leonard Lawson were accused of conspiring to steer $130 million in state highway projects to Lawson's company. Nighbert and Lawson pleaded not guilty to obstruction of justice and bribery charges. After a day and a half of deliberation, the jury reached a not guilty verdict on the charges against both men. The pair could have faced decades in prison if convicted. Trackback ( 0 )
