LEBANON, Ohio -- Three employees at a government complex were hospitalized Monday after one of them opened a letter sent through the mail and handled a suspicious substance inside, authorities said.
The letter was sent to an office complex in the town of Lebanon, where it was opened by a female employee. Officials said when she opened a return envelope, which was part of a questionnaire, her hands started to burn.
Two other employees aided the woman by taking her to the restroom and washing the substance with water.
Authorities said all three workers were taken to a hospital for treatment. It wasn't immediately known what injuries they sustained, or how severe they are.
The remaining employees in the office building were sent home for the day, and the FBI was called in to investigate.
The office complex houses several local government agencies, including the county's health department, human services department and child services agency.
