CINCINNATI -- Five people were wounded on Monday afternoon -- four of them by gunfire -- when a fight escalated in downtown Cincinnati, authorities said.

Cincinnati police said two men were fighting outside of a downtown store when the altercation quickly escalated, and one of the men pulled a gun. Authorities said he opened fire and shot four people.

A fifth person received a head wound during the fight, but police said he had not been shot. One of the victims reportedly told a 911 dispatcher that he had been shot in the face, according to WKRC-TV.

Another victim was reportedly shot three times, but managed to run several blocks to safety.

All of the victims were taken to a Cincinnati hospital, but their exact conditions were not immediately known. A motive for the fight and shooting is also unknown.

Cincinnati police on Monday afternoon were searching for the gunman, who fled immediately after the shooting.
