The Better Business Bureau of Central and Eastern Kentucky heard from a consumer about a sweepstakes offer that uses an audio card. The pre-recorded message indicates that you're eligible to win millions of dollars in cash and prizes.
The catch is found at the bottom of official-looking paperwork that says the consumer must pay a "Document Release Fee" of $40 for secure processing for the $5.4 million prize. The devil is in the details in the fine print.

Many people buy and sell vehicles online on sites such as Craigslist and AutoTrader. Now the con artists are targeting those consumers by using the ebay Motors Web site. Several people have called the Better Business Bureau of Central and Eastern Kentucky after making arrangements to buy a vehicle with someone they found on some Web site other than ebay Motors, who seemed to be selling a vehicle.
One of the scam e-mail messages states that the seller wants to use ebay's vehicle purchase program because it's a large company that's safe to use.

2009 Top Consumer Complaints |
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has listed the top complaints consumers filed with the agency in 2009. It shows that while identity theft remains the top complaint category, identity theft complaints declined 5 percentage points from 2008.
