Erika Shannon Cooper is an English teacher at Henry Clay High School. Lexington police arrested her early Friday morning and charged her with endangering the welfare of a minor, possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia and alcohol intoxication. According to a police report, an officer spotted the car Cooper was in near a known crack house just before 4 a.m. When they stopped her and questioned one of her two passengers, police say the man admitted they were trying to buy crack. Police say, when they took Cooper in to be booked, that's when she told them she left her 2-year-old daughter home alone. Police went to her home where they say they found the child along with marijuana and drug paraphernalia. The Fayette County School District says Cooper is currently suspended with pay.
