Mary Clemons bought the Dachsund mix she named "ollie" Sunday from a seller at the Georgetown Flea Market. Monday, she took Ollie to the vet for the first time. By Wednesday, Ollie was dying. "She was throwing up. She had bloody stools, foul smell to the stools. And so they was looking at her and said, 'Yeah, she probably does have Parvo.'"
Parvo is an often fatal disease dogs for which dogs should be inoculated. Ollie died Wednesday night, leaing Clemons with a vet bill of more than a hundred dollars -- and a broken heart. The woman who sold her the dog lives in Madison County -- along with at least 40 small dogs. Polly Taulbee says Ollie was healthy -- like her three remaining siblings -- and had the appropriate shots. Here's the back-and-forth between her and ABC 36's John McGary: Taulbee: "I pride myself on selling healthy pups. Everybody, i don't know what it is about Georgetown, but it's only Georgetown, everybody else I sell puppies to, I've never had no problems." McGary: "How many times have you had problems in Georgetown?" Taulbee: "Seven times in the last year." McGary: "Really?" Taulbee: And Georgetown is the only place." McGary: "With what disease?" Taulbee: "It's always parvo. Ninety percent of the time, it's Parvo." Taulbee: "That's what i can't figure out. The judge told me if they took one, they should have took them all. Why'd they only take my best dogs? Some of my best dogs?" However, Taulbee says she'd already decided not to build the kennel -- and instead, will give away about 20 of her adult dogs. For Clemons, that would be a step in the right direction. Trackback ( 0 )
