Gary LacyFirefighters credit a working carbon monoxide detector for saving the life of a Lexington family overnight.

It happened around 2 a.m. at a home on Lakeview Drive off Liberty Road behind the Idle Hour Country Club.
Firefighters say they responded to a call about a carbon monxide detector going off.

When they got to the scene, family members complained about feeling sick.  A check of the home revealed extremely high levels of the deadly gas carbon monoxide. Firefighters say this family was not able to return to the home overnight. Instead they had to check into a hotel.

Investigators say a venting problem likely caused the leak.

Carbon Monoxide Detector Alerts Family
It is welcomed news to see how carbon monoxide detectors save people from the hazards of carbon monoxide poisoing. These family members could have suffered a worse fate than the sickness that this gas can affect on humans. Without a carbon monoxide detector to alarm this family, some, if not the whole family could have died. It is our duty to inform our families and friends when we know that a hazard can potentially harm us. Some people never think about CO gas, but it is most important when the outside ambient temperature forces humans to heat their homes. Carbon monoxide is formed by combustibles, oil furnace, wood burning stoves, gas water heaters that we us when the weather cools.

Let's spread the word to make sure that our loved ones are at least aware of the hazard. This information may help others take the step to get protection against CO gas. A Carbon Mononxide Detector is the only tool that will give you that peace of mind.
