In Central and Eastern Kentucky, one in seven people receive emergency food assistance due to hunger. A new report out today from god's pantry charts the increasing need for food in the Bluegrass. Inside the food bank, it is the central hub for food donation across 50 counties. On any given week, it means food reaches more than 15,000 Kentucky families. Since the last study in 2006, there has been a huge increase in Kentucky hunger. Items from the food bank shelves reaches more than 200,000 people in a year; that is ten times the size of a packed Rupp Arena. Many people who are hungry are making tough decisions every day. According to the report, almost 40,000 of the people surveyed had to choose between paying for food and paying for utilities and heat. Volunteers traveled across Central and Eastern Kentucky, talking to people who depend on God's Pantry to eat. The pantry works with non-profits of all types, from women's shelters to soup kitchens to schools to senior citizen shelters. If you want to help you can donate your time, money, and food to God's Pantry. One dollar donations equals four and a half meals for a family. Find out more about God's Pantry at this website.
