Medical experts say that it doesn’t matter if you plan on being out in the elements for an extended period of time, or just a few minutes. They suggest you prepare of all types of conditions, whether you stay at home or hit the road. If you get into an accident or your car breaks down, that short trip to get help could prove dangerous, especially for people on blood pressure medication, or whose prescriptions prevent their bodies from fighting off the cold. ABC 36’s doctor on call has a simple tip for everyone this winter. Dr. Ryan Stanton of UK Hospital says, “It’s important to be well hydrated. One of the major risk factors for cold related injuries is dehydration. It’s always good to be hydrated to give the body energy it needs to make heat and keep yourself warm.” Dr. Stanton also says one of the first signs of hypothermia is disorientation. If someone is acting strangely after being out in the cold, take them to a doctor. Trackback ( 0 )
