A teenager is dead after being shot in Lexington on Monday.

An official announcement could come early Tuesday, after the shooting on Dorset Drive Monday afternoon. Police were called about two p.m. They found the victim outside the home. He is identified as Ali Shalash, 17.

Lexington police say this case is a homicide, but that does not mean Shalash was murdered.

It all began yesterday at a home on Dorset Drive near Valley Park. Police received a call about a shooting, and found Shalash with a gunshot wound to the head. They took him to UK Chandler Hospital,  where he died shortly after 7 p.m. Monday night.

Police obtained a warrant and searched the home, and questioned another 17 year-old boy and his mother who live there. It is unclear if the woman was there at the time of the shooting, but neighbors say the unnamed 17-year-old boy was. There is also no word from police if the shot that killed Shalash came from inside the home or outside.

Shalash's body was taken to Frankfort last night for an autopsy which was performed this morning.
