They are meant to carry trash and medical waste to land-fills across the country.  However authorities in Jersey City, New Jersey believe a train car in a CSX rail yard near Ashland could be carrying much more; the remains of a New Jersey baby.

Kentucky State Police in Ashland received word Tuesday that the train was headed their way.  Jersey City authorities had traced the train back to a New Jersey hospital’s trash.  A hospital, that had allegedly discarded the baby boy’s body, without the mother’s knowledge, after he died during or shortly after birth.  Authorities believe they have narrowed down the search to 24 train cars.

The train had been en-route to a nearby dump - Big Run Landfill near Ashland – but it was stopped at the CSX Rail Yard.  Kentucky State Police say the train is in a secure location.  They have not searched through the contents of the cars, but they say it is possible the remains may have already been incinerated during of the train’s stops in Pennsylvania

A KSP detective says they are waiting for word from Jersey City authorities on where to go from here in the investigation.  He says their thoughts and prayers go out to the baby’s family.
