Another Hurdle for Family of Destroyed Trailer

On top of losing everything, the family of a destroyed trailer in Nicolas County is now struggling with the clean-up.

The family had been moving their heavily weighed-down trailer last Friday on U.S. 68 when it blew out a tire. The Sheriff’s Department tried multiple ways of moving the trailer off the road to save it.  Hours later, when nothing had worked, Sheriff Dick Garrett made the decision to shove the trailer off the road with tractors, which destroyed the trailer.  The Sheriff says he had no choice; they had to clear the road.

Now the family is struggling to clean up the mess, which is on private property.  The Sheriff says it is up to the family to pick up the pieces, and if they don’t do it in a timely manner, they could be fined.

Francis Barton, who owned the trailer, says they don’t have the money, manpower, or equipment to do the clean-up.  They’ve been using a small trailer to haul away pieces, and they have one chain saw to help cut up the debris.

Anyone who would like to make a donation to help the family start over, or to help in the clean-up, they can do so at the Farmers National Bank in Paris.
