A prominent Lexington car dealership is closing its doors for good Wednesday night.

After five years, Jaguar/Land Rover of Lexington on Man O'War Boulevard and Palumbo Drive is out of business. Owner Jim Haynes tells WTVQ 36, the current state of the economy was not a major factor in the decision which was made months ago.

Because Haynes says the dealership simply could not sell enough vehicles to sustain an operation this size.

The staff was cut from 21 to 11 three months ago. A handful of employees will take positions at a dealership Haynes runs in Louisville, the rest are now out of a job.

The company will continue to provide service to its Lexington customers.

Employees from Louisville will drive to Lexington to pick up vehicles and return them after they have been serviced.

Haynes tells WTVQ 36 News, his company has more than five and a half million dollars invested in the land and the building and expect to work out a deal for someone else to use this prime location in the future.
