Governor Signs Steroid Ban into Law
Friday, 05 September 2008 17:21
As promised,  Governor Steve Beshear signed into law a ban on anabolic steroids in horse racing.
The law will take effect immediately.
Under the law, anabolic steroids may not be present in a horse that is racing and only acceptable levels of the naturally occurring steroids will be allowed.
A horse may be given certain steroids for therapeutic conditions but that horse may not race for at least 60 days afterwards.
The new law also strengthens the penalties for a violation.
Those caught violating the law may be suspended from racing for up to 60 days for the first offense.
