Be careful out there early today - there are a few patchy slick spots on area roads, even in Lexington. The most widespread road problems are in far northeastern KY, where a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 11:00 for Carter & Lawrence Counties - and farther north and east into Ohio and West Virginia. The light snow from last night's Alberta Clipper has ended, leaving a fraction of an inch of fresh snow across the northern half of the region. Today will be mostly cloudy with a high near 38 degrees. Winter officially begins at 12:47 PM, when the direct rays of the sun strike the Tropic of Capricorn down in the Southern Hemisphere. Tonight, we'll fall to around 28 degrees. Some patchy freezing fog will form in some locations late, under mostly cloudy skies. Tuesday will be another mostly cloudy day with highs near 44 degrees. The next storm system will move in on Wednesday afternoon or evening, with rain showers arriving west of I-75 late in the day. Highs will be near 44 once again. The warming trend will continue through a rainy Christmas Eve. Periods of rain will occur under mostly cloudy skies, and highs will climb to near 49 degrees. Christmas Day will be a time of transition, weatherwise, as morning rain showers give way to colder air and snow showers in the afternoon behind a strong cold front. Christmas Day's high will be around 43 degrees early in the day, with readings falling through the afternoon. Scattered snow showers and flurries will occur on Saturday with highs near 35 degrees. Sunday should be mostly cloudy and cold with highs only around 34.
