Ron Berry Pardoned
Friday, 29 August 2008 16:21
Governor Steve Beshear has pardoned a convicted child molestor
and given him back some of his rights.
Ron Berry, the former head of the Micro-City Government Youth Program, served three years in prison after being convicted of 12 counts of sodomy involving teenage boys.
Governor Beshear signed Berry's pardon back on August 20th, not only restoring his right to vote but it also allows him to hold office.
The attorney who represented Berry's accusers tells the Herald Leader she is fine with him being allowed to vote but stunned that he could hold office.
Beshear spokesman Jay Blanton tells the Herald Leader the governor routinely approves the partial restoration of civil rights if applicants have served their sentence, paid restitution and have no further charges against them.

Beshear pardoning Ron Berry is despicable. How about Berry come live next to Beshear and his children/grandchildren. Absolutely reprehensible.

Anyone who could tramatize the lives of any young child, not to mention twelve, should have every right as a human being revoked. In my opinion Steve Beshear should no longer have the right to hold office for releasing a sexual predator such as Ron Berry back into the public sector. I am the father of a nine year old son and to even ponder the notion that something like this could happen to him, devestates me. Governor Beshear, I hope that you can sleep soundly at night knowing that this monster is once again on the streets and the prowl. Pathetic !!!!!

I say give him the right to vote, but remove his manlihood. After that, I don't think he would be interested in exercising his right to vote. This should be true with any child molester, woman or man. I believe in the good ole fashion thread and needle job in these types of cases.

I think what Barry did was awful and I don't think any of us should be afraid today it loudly and publicly. But what real public good is served by depriving him of the right to vote? To be fair, lots of awful people have the right to vote - but we don't take that right away.

Our justice system needs to provide two functions - to deter people from committing crimes and to rehabilitate people who have committed crimes. Taking someone's voting rights away does neither and in many cases, the right to vote can be a huge part of someone's recovery.

Restore voting rights to *everyone* and we'll have a much fairer system.

Can anyone explain to me why DEMOCRATIC Governor Steve Beshear PARDONED a convicted child molester, who used his position of authority to manipulate vulnerable young boys?

This partial pardon allows Ron Berry of Lexington the right to vote and the right to RUN FOR OFFICE!?!? Are you KIDDING me!? What is this!?

The KY General Assembly refuses to pass legislation to restore felons' voting rights, but the GOVERNOR finds it necessary to grant this pardon to a CONVICTED CHILD MOLESTER!?! What is REALLY going on here...

This is an outrage & I want answers!!

We MUST let Governor Beshear know that this is an embarrassment to our state, to our party and that we will NOT re-elect someone who continues this pattern!!
