Well, we got down to a bone-chilling 17 degrees in Lexington early this Sunday. That was the coldest we've been since March 3rd! During the day, most of us climbed into the middle to upper 30s, but that didn't really provide much relief from the chill, considering our average high this time of the year is still 47 in Lexington.
Tonight will be chilly, but not AS cold as it was earlier this weekend. Expect lows around 27 degrees as skies continue to turn cloudy. Toward dawn, some of you to the west of Interstate 75 may see an isolated snow flurry.
A weak, moisture-starved storm system will cross Kentucky on Monday. We may see an isolated snow flurry or a stray sprinkle in the morning as temperatures hover near the freezing mark, but that should be it -- precipitation will be very limited. Monday's high will be near 40 degrees.
A much stronger storm will move into the area late on Tuesday. After a dry start to the day, rain will develop toward evening, and it will become windy. Temperatures will rise to near 46 degrees after dark, and continue rising overnight into Wednesday as rain falls. All of that is thanks to warm, humid breezes from the south.
By Wednesday morning, readings should climb to near 51 degrees. Rain will continue to fall, and a strong cold front will sharply drop temperatures in the afternoon. Readings will fall through the 40s and into the 30s, and before precipitation totally ends, expect the rain to mix with a little bit of light snow. Snow accumulations will be minimal at most.
Thursday will be a very cold day for late fall, with highs only reaching 32 despite partly sunny skies.
Friday will also be partly sunny and chilly with highs near 39.
A weak storm system bring the potential for a light mix of rain and snow back into our forecast for Saturday night into Sunday. Highs will be near 41 on Saturday and 39 on Sunday.
