It all starts with her name, Patricia Ann Middleton.
Her problem is another Patricia Ann Middleton.
She lives in Morehead, the other lives in Harlan County.
The two, separated by more than 100 miles, finally met two years ago.
"She charged 800 dollars worth of merchandise to my Goody's credit card," explains the Morehead Middleton. "She used my account number with her photo I.D."
After Patricia Ann Middleton cleared up the mess with Goody's she decided to check her credit report and she found out they had combined the two accounts, including the women's social security numbers and birthdates.
"We're just like Siamese twins we are joined at the hip, you know, and they won't perform the surgery to separate us."
Since discovering the snafu, Middleton has made lots of phone calls, including several to the one credit bureau which made the mistake in the first place.
"Experian told me we'll look into it."
She made that request a year and a half ago.
After contacting lawyers, the Attorney General's Office and the Federal Trade Commission, Middleton says: "The only thing left is to go down there with a big stick and whip her. What else can you do?"
The Better Business Bureau of Central and Eastern Kentucky tells Action News 36, while Mrs. Middleton's case is very unusual, it does point out the importance of checking your credit report every year. |
